A Bit About Me

My name is Giovanni Cascone, and I am a graduate of Southwest Baptist University, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in December 2025. I am currently continuing my academic journey by pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering with specialization in Machine Learning at San José State University.

I'm from Italy, I bring a global perspective and a deep appreciation for different cultures and ways of thinking. During my time at SBU, I had the opportunity to serve as captain of the men’s soccer team for 4 years, an experience that shaped my approach to leadership, teamwork, and staying composed under pressure. These lessons have stayed with me beyond the field and influence how I approach both academic and professional challenges.

Through coursework and hands-on projects, I have developed strong skills in Python, Java, SQL, and full-stack web development using Django, along with experience in databases, operating systems, and computer networks. I am motivated to continue growing as a professional by applying my technical skills and leadership experience to build reliable, real-world software systems.

  • Built a full-stack Django web app to replace a manual Google Sheets capitalization workflow for tracking engineering labor.

  • Implemented secure authentication with role-based access control (Admin/Manager) and least-privilege permissions.

  • Developed CRUD features for employees, teams, projects, hours, and PTO with automatic capitalization calculations.

  • Added CSV import/export for monthly reporting and audit-ready historical data snapshots.

Embedded Software Developer/ | Hacca Impianti

  • Developed embedded C++ firmware on an Arduino Opta PLC to control an industrial material-transport machine.

  • Implemented a finite-state machine enabling forward, stop, pause, and reverse operation of mechanical actuators.

  • Integrated physical pushbuttons, relay outputs, and LED indicators with debouncing and safety interlocks.

  • Built a Wi-Fi Access Point and embedded web interface for real-time configuration of motion timing parameters.

AI Checker | ML/AI Engineering Project

Jan-Mar 2026

  • Engineered an end-to-end AI-video detection system (FastAPI) that analyzes social video URLs/uploads via a face-first pipeline: frame sampling, face detection, per-frame inference, and video-level probability aggregation.

  • Built a multi-signal forensic ensemble combining CNN predictions with FFT artifact analysis, noise-residual scoring, and optical-flow temporal consistency checks to improve robustness beyond single-model outputs.

  • Implemented model lifecycle tooling: dataset face-crop builder from raw videos, supervised training pipeline, TorchScript export for low-latency inference, and post-hoc calibration (temperature+bias) from labeled validation outputs.

  • Added observability/debug features for model behavior analysis: per-frame component scores, top-k frame traceability, evidence-frame export, and configurable runtime controls for ablation/sanity testing.

AutoPrognosis | ML/AI Engineering Project | SJSU

Jan-May 2026 

Built a hybrid machine learning framework for Remaining Useful Life (RUL) prediction in hybrid electric vehicles, combining NASA's C-MAPSS turbofan engine dataset with battery aging data into a unified 160K-sample predictive maintenance system.

  • Amalgamated 3 NASA datasets (engine, battery, hybrid) into a single pipeline with median imputation and standardization preprocessing

  • Evaluated 4 regression models (MLP, Gradient Boosting, KNN, Linear Regression) for RUL estimation — MLP achieved R² > 0.999 and RMSE of 0.87 cycles

  • Evaluated 4 classification models (Random Forest, SVM, Logistic Regression, MLP) for health state detection — Random Forest attained 99.99% accuracy

  • Applied AutoML optimization with Muller Loop distribution shift analysis, reducing RMSE by 20.5%

  • Conducted feature importance analysis revealing engine RUL as the dominant predictor (importance score: 0.9990)
